  • Is the PRP treatment painful?
    How long is a piece of string? ☺ Most people find the temporary discomfort of the procedure is minimal when compared to the underlying problem. Depending on the anatomical site of the procedure, the perceived pain varies between minimal to moderate. Read More
  • How many treatments will I need?
    PRP usually involves three treatments. These are usually one week apart, but may be less frequent depending on the site of injection. Read about the benefits here.
  • Can I have another course of PRP after the first one?
    Yes. If you have a good result after the first course of PRP, then you can request to have another treatment after 12 months.
  • What is the recommended time frame between PRP treatment courses?
    Depending on individual requirements, PRP can be repeated every 12 months.
  • How long does each PRP appointment take?
    The treatment will take approximately 30 minutes.
  • Can I eat and drink prior to treatment?
    It is generally recommended to avoid consuming large meals four hours prior to treatment. We recommend avoiding any fatty foods (dairy, meat, oils) on the day of treatment, in order to achieve the best results. It’s fine to drink water or tea/coffee without milk. If you have specific questions, please contact us directly.
  • Is the procedure covered by health insurance?
    Some health insurers will cover PRP treatment. We recommend you check with your health provider.
  • Is PRP covered by ACC?
    Not at this stage, but may be covered in the future.
  • Do you have local anaesthetic before PRP?
    This is part of our procedure. The local anaesthetic is not injected into the joint cavity itself and will not interfere with the healing properties of the PRP treatment.
  • What pain medication can I take post PRP?
    Do not take any anti-inflammatories. It is acceptable to take paracetamol, codeine or tramadol. Please consult with your doctor prior to taking medications.
  • Can I drive after the procedure?
    Yes. It is generally fine to drive after treatments. If you are concerned, then contact us directly.
  • What exercise will I be able to do post PRP?
    It is recommended to avoid any strenuous exercise for two weeks after the injections. No exercise should be taken on the first day of treatment. Do not do anything that may cause or increase pain. Gentle exercise is acceptable after the first 48 hours following treatment. Email us if you have any specific questions.
